Characters

Happy writing day! Welcome to yet another blog post where we will discuss how to craft the perfect characters.

Correction, we will teach you how to create your best friend from scratch. Trust me, we know your characters are your best friend, can’t deny it! Nope, still can’t!

When it comes to creating your characters our suggestion is to imagine a person that you would like to spend time with for an extended period of time or someone you really hate, and you can’t wait to spend hours writing about how terrible that person is.

All jokes aside, what we are trying to get at is that you will be spending hours with that imaginary (please don’t get offended, we know that character in your head is very much real to you) character of yours.

One of the most common reasons we see people getting into Writer's Block is getting sick of your character. All your novel writers out there we highly suggest creating someone you will like to spend time with for a few thousand words or more!

The second most important thing is crafting a character that fits the mood/setting (note: speaking of settings we have a whole section about that in our next post) of what you are trying to convey. A character’s response in setting will set the overall mood for that scene.

You can have a character who laughs when a murder happens and that can mean that maybe they are a psychopath; and we might also laugh in such a serious situation instead of mourning or feeling sad.

We love a morally-gray villain!

More so, a character’s physical appearance and depending on what background they are from can also determine how they set the mood. For instance, having a gothic character or a bubbly sunshine character within the same scene can determine how they view the situation. Opposite attracts, what can I say?

Or

Their cultural background can determine their beliefs, and how they view society. After all, everything the readers experience is through their lenses. Like how you are currently getting all your writing tips through reading this blog.

Wow that’s a smooth transition. Or we do hope that was! Yes? No?

Anyway, this is the last part of our blog session for now. See you in couple of weeks!

Love ya!
